Questions to Ask Yourself Each Month

A gentle monthly reflection to help you pause, reconnect and move into the next chapter with greater clarity and intention.

There is something powerful about pausing at the end of a month.

Not to measure how productive you were. Not to judge what you did or did not do. But to notice.

To notice how you have been feeling. What has been nourishing you. What has been draining you. What has been working. What no longer feels aligned.

Life moves quickly. Weeks blur into one another. And without reflection, it is easy to keep going without ever asking whether the way we are living still feels right.

A monthly check-in is a simple way to return to yourself.

A quiet moment to step out of autopilot, listen inwardly, and make small intentional adjustments before the next month begins.

You do not need hours. You do not need the perfect routine. You just need a little space, a page, and a willingness to be honest with yourself.

A monthly return

Reflection creates clarity.

Clarity creates intention. Intention creates action. And action, repeated quietly over time, shapes the life you are creating.

Here are a few gentle questions to ask yourself each month.

Question 01

How have I really been feeling?

Before thinking about what you have done, begin with how you have been.

  • Calm?
  • Overwhelmed?
  • Inspired?
  • Disconnected?
  • Grounded?
  • Restless?

So often, we move straight into logistics and lists. But feelings hold valuable information. This question helps you start with your inner world, not just your outer one.

Question 02

What brought me joy this month?

Not what looked good. Not what you think should have made you happy. What genuinely brought you joy?

It may have been something small. A slow morning. Fresh flowers in the kitchen. Time in nature. A meaningful conversation. Reading in bed. A quiet coffee before the day began.

The more we notice what brings us joy, the more intentionally we can create lives that include more of it.

Question 03

What has been draining my energy?

This question is not about becoming negative. It is about becoming aware.

What has felt heavy lately? What has been depleting you? What have you been tolerating? What feels out of alignment?

Sometimes the answer is obvious. Sometimes it is more subtle: a rushed schedule, too much time online, a commitment that no longer feels right, not enough rest, or neglecting your own needs.

Awareness is where change begins.

Question 04

What felt most aligned?

Think about the moments this month that felt most like you.

When did you feel calm, clear, connected or deeply yourself?

Perhaps it was when you were creating. Hosting. Writing. Moving your body. Spending time at home. Being by the sea. Working on something meaningful.

Alignment often leaves clues. The things that make you feel most like yourself are worth paying attention to.

Question 05

What am I proud of?

We can be so quick to move on to the next thing that we forget to acknowledge ourselves.

What did you handle well this month? What did you move through with courage? What did you begin? What did you honour? What did you do differently?

Let yourself notice your own growth, even if it does not look dramatic from the outside.

Small shifts matter.

Question 06

What have I been avoiding?

Often, the things we avoid are the things quietly asking for our attention.

Is there a conversation you need to have? A decision you need to make? A boundary you need to set? A feeling you need to sit with? A part of yourself you need to be honest about?

You do not need to fix everything at once. But naming what you have been avoiding can be the first step towards moving forward.

Question 07

What do I want more of next month?

This is where reflection becomes intention.

What do you want more of in the month ahead?

  • More rest.
  • More presence.
  • More creativity.
  • More time outside.
  • More beauty in your everyday life.
  • More space to think.

Be gentle, but be clear.

Question 08

What do I want less of?

Just as important as what you want more of is what you want less of.

  • Less rushing.
  • Less overcommitting.
  • Less comparison.
  • Less noise.
  • Less self-abandonment.
  • Less doing things out of habit.

A beautiful life is not only shaped by what we add. Often, it is shaped by what we release.

Question 09

What matters most to me right now?

This question brings you back to the heart of intentional living.

Not what mattered six months ago. Not what matters to everyone else. What matters to you now?

Your answer may be simple: your health, your peace, your family, your creativity, your home, a new beginning, or a slower way of living.

Let this answer guide the month ahead.

Question 10

What is one intention I want to carry into the next month?

Keep it simple. Keep it meaningful.

An intention is not a pressure-filled goal. It is a way of being. A quiet direction. A reminder of how you want to move through your days.

  • I want to move more slowly.
  • I want to trust myself more.
  • I want to protect my energy.
  • I want to be more present.
  • I want to create space for what matters.

Write it somewhere you will return to often.

A simple monthly ritual

Make it a moment you return to.

Make a coffee or tea. Light a candle. Sit somewhere quiet. Open your journal. Reflect without rushing.

You do not need to answer every question perfectly. The value is not in having the right response. The value is in creating space to hear yourself again.

A month does not need to end with pressure.

It can end with presence. With honesty. With gratitude. With a little more self-awareness than you had before.

These small moments of reflection may seem simple, but over time they change the way we live.

They help us notice. Choose differently. Realign. Return to ourselves.

And that is often where the most meaningful change begins.

Create Space for What Matters
